It addressed a hard technical problem with clear social impact: making communication between Deaf and hearing people easier on everyday devices.

Snap had already worked with SignAll on fingerspelling Lenses in 2021 and on the ASL Alphabet Lens in 2022, built by Snap’s Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing team on SignAll’s computer vision technology and available to Snapchat users worldwide on iOS and Android.
The transaction brought that technology into Snap’s camera and AR platform.
